As of January 2025, Jason Tomsu has been hired as the new full time cook at the Crofton Senior Center.
Tomsu enjoys cooking and brings with him two years of experience preparing meals at the Lindy Country Club where he cooked six days a week. In contrast to the menu in Lindy, meals at the Senior Center involve no deep fat frying.
Tomsu is also learning proper portion amounts for protein, carbohydrates, fruits and vegetables. The work schedule of 8:15 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. coincides with Tomsu’s time needed at home to care for his special needs son.
He’s been enjoying his coworkers, Dorothy Schoenberner, Joyce Eckhart, Dorothy Guenther and Karen Tilton as well as the people who enjoy eating at the Center.
After cooking at the Center for 30 years, Katie Tramp is turning over the kitchen duties to Tomsu and agreeing to fill in as needed. Tramp has been advising her successor on improvising when food orders don’t arrive on time, adhering to menu requirements, and always being prepared for a visit from the Nebraska Department of Health.
Tramp says she will miss the people she worked with and those with whom she shared meals. She encourages the community to continue to utilize the many offerings of the Senior Center such as social activities, health and vaccine programs and educational programs.
Tramp is looking forward to relaxing, spending time with grandchildren, and doing some fishing with husband Tony.
