8U Wuebben Has Another Great Week

Crofton Volunteer Fields had another great week from June 10 through June 16. The week included a mix of practices, games, and tournaments. The 12U Mueller baseball team had a great week. They defeated Ponca 8-7 in extra innings, then competed in the Wayne Baseball Association Tournament, winning 2-0 against Logan View and 10-6 against Wayne. Day two of their tournament was rained out.

The team will travel to play Hartington Navy on Wednesday, June 19 and then competed in the Yankton Baseball Association Youth Baseball Tournament in Yankton at Sertoma Park on June 22-23. 10U Connot/Lancaster won their most recent game against Hartington 1 8-2, while 10U Morrison/ Weber defeated Hartington 1 5-4. A combination of second-year 10U players planned on going to Wayne for the Wayne Baseball Association Tournament, but they could not get in any games due to the weather. Both 10U teams will compete in their final league game on Monday, June 17. 10U Connot/Lancaster hosts Ponca while 10U Morrison/Weber hosts Fordyce/Wynot.

Both teams will also compete in the league tournament. They could either play on Thursday, June 20th or Saturday, June 22, depending on how the standings end. The 8U baseball teams were all in action on Friday, June 14. 8U LaCroix played against Ponca 1 while 8U Leader and 8U Rabbass played against one another. The kids hit the ball well in the 8U Leader versus 8U Rabbass. Coach Ashley Leader noted that the kids hit a combined six home runs, including those hit by Layton Jensen, Aaron Leader, Tate Wortmann, Tate Tramp, and Trey Arens.

This week Crofton will be hosting the 8U league tournament. 8U Leader will be playing at 4:00 P.M. versus 8U Rabbass and then at 5:00 P.M. versus Wynot. 8U Rabbass will face Hartington 1 at 5:00 P.M. 8U LaCroix will face Hartington 2 at 5:00 P.M. and then Ponca 2 at 6:00 P.M. Just like how the baseball teams have been doing well, the softball teams continue to get in games and practice, too. The 18U team continues to build momentum. They played three competitive games, all of which gave them more time on the field. They lost to Avon 5-4 and 12-8 on Tuesday, June 11. On Thursday, June 13, the team traveled to Wakefield and played a great game against Wakefield, falling 2- 1.

They host Wausa in a doubleheader on Tuesday, June 18 and then at Creighton in a doubleheader on Thursday, June 20. The 14U team also got in a few games. They played Creighton on Tuesday, June 11 and then Ponca on June 13th. They lost 15-4 at home against Creighton and had an 18-9 loss against Ponca The 14U girls play host to Wausa on Tuesday, June 18 and then Laurel on Thursday June 20. The 12U girls played Tuesday, June 11 against 14U Yankton Fury Lancers (Romero), losing 18-5. They turned around and played at Wakefield where they won 7-0.

On Sunday, the 12U girls competed in a triangular in Ponca against Ponca and Pender. In game 1, Crofton defeated Ponca 16-6 and then defeated Pender 10-2. The 12U girls will play at Bloomfield in a doubleheader on Tuesday, June 18, in a single game against Yankton Fury Lancers (Kindle) at home on Thursday, June 20, and in the league tournament in Crofton on Saturday, June 22. The 10U girls had a busy week.

They played at Wynot on Tuesday, June 11th, losing 7-0. They defeated Wakefield 7-4 and 6-1 in a doubleheader on the road. Then they earned fourth place in the 10U league tournament hosted in Randolph. The 10U girls won their first game 3-1 against Randolph, a team they had lost to 16-0 earlier in the season. They then lost to the eventual champion Verdigre, defeated Wakefield, and then lost to Randolph. They play at home in a doubleheader against Ponca on Tuesday, June 11 and then host Laurel on Thursday, June 20.

8U Wuebben also had a couple of games this past week. They defeated Wynot 21-3 on the road on Tuesday, June 11, They then traveled to Wakefield on Thursday, June 13 where they won 10-7. 8U Morrison played their first ever player-pitch game against the Yankton Fury Lancers (Romero) on Tuesday, June 11. They also traveled to Wakefield, defeating Wakefield 22-20 on Thursday, June 13. Both teams play this Tuesday (June 18) at Bloomfield and then Thursday (June 20) at home against Laurel. To cap the week, they will play in the league tournament hosted in Osmond on Sunday, June 23.
